How Healthy Challenge Works

In teams of 3 to 8, you'll have the encouragement and support of your team members as you chalk up points for physical activity, mental health, a nutritious diet and other healthy practices. As you review the scoring sheet you'll see that you don't have to be an athlete to join the Challenge. What counts is consistency across a broad spectrum of research-supported healthy habits.

Throughout the 12-week Challenge there will be special seminars highlighting the current research findings on exercise and nutrition. Each session will also offer practical ways for you to incorporate healthy habits into your daily routine. While the brown bags will be open to all employees, Challenge participants will be able to accumulate points for attending. The employee advisory committees of Fred Hutchinson and SCCA invite you to take the Challenge. Here's how:

  1. Form a team of 3 to 8 members. Team members must be either Center or SCCA employees. Pick a team name. Register your team by Friday, January 19. The Challenge will run from Monday, January 22 through Sunday, April 15, 2007.

  2. Choose your team captain who will serve as the contact person for your team. Captain responsibilities will include: receiving and relaying information about Challenge events, collecting individual scores and submitting team scores to healthychallenge@fhcrc.org by Tuesday of each week.

  3. You will track points earned for being physically active and living a healthy lifestyle.

  4. You may earn additional points by attending wellness events and achieving a personal fitness goal set at the beginning of the Challenge. Events will include brown bag lunch seminars on personal fitness, nutrition, stress reduction and other relevant topics. The Healthy Challenge website will post a schedule of events.

  5. You will also earn additional points for achieving a personal fitness goal you set at the start of the Challenge. At the end of every 4 weeks during the 12-week Challenge, you can claim points if you met your goal during that period.

  6. A week runs from Monday to Sunday. Team scores are due the following Tuesday. Team weekly scores will be posted on the Benefits website — we'll notify your team captain when scores are updated.

  7. The Challenge will run for 12 weeks. First prize will go to the team with the highest score. Other notable accomplishments will also be recognized and all participants will receive a gift for completion.
