IRB Meeting Schedule

The FHCRC has three IRBs, Committees A, B and C. 

Schedule for Review of New Research Applications:

New research applications requiring Full review at a convened meeting will be assigned to one of the three committees for review.  Once assigned, all future modifications, continuing review reports and other items associated with the research project will typically be reviewed by the same committee.

The Committees meet on Wednesday afternoons to review new research applications on the following schedule:

            2^nd Wednesday of the month – Committee A

            3^rd Wednesday of the month – Committee C

            4^th Wednesday of the month – Committee B

Wednesday afternoon meetings begin at 2:30pm.

The maximum number of new applications for full review per Wednesday afternoon committee meeting is six. Applications are typically assigned to the next available committee in the order they are received. 

Please note that the IRB submission deadline for new applications requiring full committee review is 5pm the Monday two weeks prior to the meeting week. This allows the IRO staff one week to review and prepare your application for the committee and one week for the committee members to review all materials in advance of the meeting.   See Wednesday meeting schedule below.

Schedule for Review of Modifications to Ongoing Research:

All three IRBs meet routinely on the 1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd, and 4^th, Tuesday of each month to review modifications to ongoing research. 

Tuesday afternoon meetings begin at 3:00 pm.  Deadline for the Tuesday afternoon meetings is 3pm on the Thursday 12 days prior to the meeting.  This allows the IRO staff one week to review and prepare your application for the committee and five days for the committee members to review all materials in advance of the meeting.   See Tuesday meeting schedule below.  Tuesday meetings are limited to 1 hour.  Modification requests may roll over to the Wednesday afternoon meeting or to the following week Tuesday meeting if the Committee is unable to review all items on the agenda.

Exceptions to the meeting deadlines:

Applications received after the deadlines will be scheduled for the next available committee meeting. Exceptions to the submission deadline should be requested in writing from the PI. If requested, the IRO assistant director and the committee chair will always consider adding items received after the submission deadline to the agenda based on the following criteria: modifications to research relating to mitigating subject safety issues, modifications to therapeutic research to increase enrollment, new applications for therapeutic trials where subjects are waiting, and of course issues pressing to the Center (e.g. applications relating to stimulus package grants).
