Applying from Another Institution

Under What Circumstances Would an Investigator Apply from Another Institution?

Due to joint appointments held by many Center Investigators, situations may arise where an Investigator will apply for funding through another institution.

Who Reviews the Applications?

In these instances it is necessary to have the application reviewed by the applicable Division Director and the Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) before being submitted. This applies to any proposal where the Investigator will be devoting his/her effort to the project regardless of whether the Center will receive any funding.

When the Center Receives the Funding

If the application is being submitted through another institution (for example the University of Washington), complete the form "Request for Approval for Grants and Contracts to be Administered by Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center." The application will need to be reviewed by your Division Head and OSR. This review should be completed prior to submitting the application to the funding agency.

When the Other Institution Receives the Funding

If you expect to receive funding at the Center, normal sign-off procedures should be followed.  An individual from the program should prepare a letter of participation which will be signed by the OSR director when final approval is completed. For more information see Subawards.
