In some cases, funding agencies limit the number of award applications an institution may submit. This serves two purposes: it minimizes the number of applications reviewed by the funding agency and it gives the applying institution an opportunity to select the best candidate(s) for the award. Typically, an agency offering a Limited Applicant Award will allow only one or two candidates per institution to submit an application.

Funding agencies offering Limited Applicant Awards include:

Please be aware that funding agencies have different eligibility and pre-proposal requirements for each award. Refer to the individual award links below for more details.

How to Apply for a Foundation or Non-Federal Limited Applicant Award

   Center Pre-Proposal Review Procedure

The Hutchinson Center has established a cross-divisional Internal Awards Committee to make pre-proposal reviews an equitable process for all potential candidates.  For all limited applicant awards, pre-proposals are submitted to the Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) by the stated internal deadline.  The Internal Awards Committee reviews the pre-proposals and determines which one(s) to recommend for submission to the funding agency. OSR notifies all candidates of the Committee's decision and invites the selected candidate(s) to apply for the award.

Questions about any of the Limited Applicant Award processes or about any specific funding opportunity should be directed via email to fundinginfo@fhcrc.org.
